Treating some of the sickest patients in Central Massachusetts, 7ICU at our University Campus — one of at least three intensive care units (ICU) designated for COVID patients in the second surge — allowed a Globe reporter and photographer to visit the unit. The Globe interviewed ICU Nurses Christine Keidan, Anne Morrissey, Mary Davis and Jason Eisenmenger; ICU Medical Director Nicholas Smyrnios; and Medical Center President Michael Gustafson, MD, MBA, who illustrated the enormity of the challenge at hand caring for COVID-19 patients.

Flotte, MD, the Celia and Isaac Haidak Professor, executive deputy chancellor, provost and dean of the School of Medicine. This newly created position includes responsibility for creating an inclusive process to implement the educational goals of the IMPACT 2025 Strategic Plan as well as oversight of crucial educational resources that support the educational mission of the three schools: the School of Medicine, Graduate School of Nursing and Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.
